Isn't It Time You Get Moving?

BlogI haven't roofed a house in twenty-five years. But I did a lot of during my college and early ministry years. My dad taught me how in high school, and I used roofing as a help to get through college and to supplement our income while church planting. While on sabbatical, I learned of a friend of my in-laws who needed their house shingled but couldn't afford to have it done. I'm not sure how I volunteered, but I'm about half-way into it now.But it brought my mind back to a lesson I learned in the trades. It's the key to getting things done. You have to get started and you have to keep moving. The guys who putz with their tools, wait for ideal weather, or take lots of breaks and find excuses to take days off, they get little done, make less money, and usually struggle in their business. If you want to make a decent living in construction, you have to get a lot of quality work done in a short amount of time. And the way you do that is simply: Get started and keep moving. As I read through the Book of Acts a few months ago, I was reminded of the same lesson from the early Christians who made such a difference in the first century after Jesus. Paul, for example, was one who started early and didn't quit. Within a decade they were described by a high powered political leader as those who "turned the world upside down."How did they do it? They got started and they kept moving.Maybe it's time for you to get started. Maybe you've stalled and are making little progress, and now it's time to get moving again.I don't know what God has in store for you. But he has you here for his kingdom work. In some way, shape or form, God wants you actively engaged in the family business. He wants you to be getting some things done for his glory and the sake of the Gospel. If your life is going to matter (and he wants it to) you've got to get started and you've got to keep moving. So it's time to quit reorganizing your tools and rearranging your equipment. You've got all you need to make an impact in the expansion of his kingdom. You've just got to get started. So let's get busy. We've got a world to turn upside down!
