Uncertain About the Future?

UncertainLast week served as a reminder to me of the reality of death. We attended a wake for a man who was not much older than me. He learned he had cancer one day and eight weeks later, we were at his funeral visitation. From there we went to the hospital to visit a woman who is younger than me. A couple of months ago she was also told she has cancer, and in her hospital room she told my wife and I that she has about six months left.Sometimes people know it is coming. I’m not sure if I’d want to know or not. But whether or not we get a warning, for all of us, either the news or death itself will come sooner than we expect. The uncertainty of what is to come after death used to keep me awake for hours when I was a teenager. I guess you could say that I was scared to death of death. But no more.Death need not be something to fear. The Scriptures abound with promises that we can have a certainty of life beyond the grave, and a life far better than this life today. That woman in the hospital, I sent her the link to my sermon series on heaven from a couple of years ago. Heaven is so different from the way most people think of it. The Bible describes it as a real place, much like the world we live in today. It’s called the “new earth” and it is filled with plants and trees, animals, mountains, rivers and lakes. It has the best of this world, but none of the corruption or effects of sin. We will enjoy the best parts of the relationships we enjoy today, again, without the effects of sin. There will be no pride, selfishness, or ill will. And the best part is that we will be in person with our creator. We will have lives filled with meaning and purpose…forever! And you can be certain of heaven today. David proclaimed, "I will live in the house of the LORD forever” (Psalm 23:6). David was confident that he would be in heaven some day (where he is right now). The verse that stood out to me when I was on my own journey of salvation was written by Jesus' closest friend, “...you may know you have eternal life” (1 John 5:13).You can be certain of your ultimate future. You can know that you have eternal life with God in heaven. And you can know that today. Do you?I’ve written a little booklet entitled, "How You Can Be Saved”, and if this is something you are not yet certain of, I’d love to share it with you. Just click on this contact link, and fill it out the form, asking for the booklet. We will send it to you free of charge. We don’t need any more reminders of the certainty of death. But with that certainty, you can also have the certainty of heaven. If you do not yet know, please, get it settled today.
