Ultimate Injustice
I’m not one to comment often on what is in the news. We try to give you all an escape from the week’s headlines. And some of the justice issues that many pastors become consumed with do not have clear-cut solutions. We think we should always be about solutions, and the Gospel is always the solution. So we focus on that.
But once-in-a-while, there is something in the news that is so egregious and noteworthy, that we have to speak.
None of us should be surprised by the New York State law legalizing the taking of innocent and defenseless human lives within the womb, up to the very hour when they would be born. But I am sickened. On top of that, if you read the comments from the Virginia governor, acknowledging that their proposed legislation would include infanticide, the killing of children already born, we can see the natural end result of the attack on innocent human life that began decades ago. The goal was always: free abortions for all with no restrictions whatsoever. This is taking us back to degenerate ancient Rome, where newborn children were left to die in the elements for any reason, even the convenience of the parents who would prefer to not have to raise a child.
None of us can claim to be justice warriors and remain silent about this travesty.
Never mind the politics of this. This is the greatest moral injustice of our time, and perhaps of all time. None of us can claim to be justice warriors and remain silent about this travesty. We are talking about brutality against our most innocent and defenseless, human beings who can feel pain and have a will to live, being put to death, and proponents and their political allies rejoicing in a law that legalizes it. All of us should be mortified.
We have many women in our church who have had an abortion. A number have come to me in tears over their guilt. And my reassurance is always the same, God offers and bestows full and complete forgiveness. Truthfully, my heart goes out to you who had been misled and also victimized. You were told the life within you was not alive at all, but only a blob of tissue. Many women have reiterated to me that they came to realize how untrue that was the moment the procedure was over. This post is not about making you feel guilty. Instead, I remind you of God’s absolute forgiveness.
But on behalf of all the innocent and defenseless in New York State, the Commonwealth of Virginia, the State of Illinois, and even here in the northwest suburbs, where beating hearts are silenced every day, let us heed God’s call, "Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute” (Proverbs 31:8).
