Almost Every Blog Post

EveryDayI just went back through my own blog posts over the last few months. Almost every post of mine, going back to February 13th of this year, had something to do with COVID-19. I guess, week after week, I’m feeling like it’s almost insensitive to not write about what we are all facing. But maybe it’s time to get back to the basics of life. What are the things, whether alone in quarantine, or forced together 24/7 with family or a roommate, that will breathe life back into our circumstances?Let’s get back to the basics. Let’s get back to the things we should be doing every day. I really think that if you follow this prescription, the weariness of our temporary (that it is) situation will be reinvigorated. Here’s a list of everyday things that I’ve found in my own life, I need to do every day. They are in no particular order, just the first one.

  • Get with God.
  • Intentionally bless another person.
  • Breathe outside air.
  • Read a book (ok…not a whole book every day–but read a book).
  • Organize some part of my life.
  • Laugh with family or friends (they laughed with me about the suggestion above).
  • Connect with a friend (usually over the phone–NOT just texting).
  • Write a note or speak a word of encouragement to someone I don’t know very well.
  • Learn something I didn’t know before.
  • Exercise.

Yes, I guess this is another post about our situation. But really, this is about life in general. Most of us are about as happy as we were before this quarantine began. The difficulty of what we are going through is only wearing us down. This list of “daily dos” are for every time. But right now, in the middle of all this, is a great time to get started. Post them on your fridge or put them in your phone. If you follow through, I think you’ll sense the dark cloud of listlessness beginning to dissipate.“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope” (Romans 15:13).
