Labor Day weekend was a lot of things to a lot of people. To former pastor Alexander Lang of Arlington Heights, it was the weekend his article, “Why I Left The Church”, went viral. It was eaten up by multitudes of mostly millennials and some Gen-Zers who hail from evangelical backgrounds, though Rev. Lang himself is not an evangelical. 

Lang is a great writer and his article is both articulate and thought-provoking.

In 1830, George Wilson killed a government employee who caught him in the act of robbing the mail. He was tried and sentenced to be hanged. However, then President of the United States, Andrew Jackson, sent him a pardon. But Wilson did a strange thing. He refused to accept the pardon and no one seemed to know what to do.

In his book None of These Diseases, S. I. McMillen tells a story of a young woman who wanted to go to college, but her heart sank when she read the question on her application that asked, “Are you a leader?” Being both honest and conscientious, she wrote, “No,” and submitted the application, expecting the worst. To her surprise, she received this letter from the college…

A couple years ago, shortly after getting my pilot’s license, Linda and I took an impulsive flight to Rochelle, Illinois for dinner. While many restaurants were still closed because of the pandemic, I had heard there was a decent restaurant at the airport that was open.

We didn’t know anything about the restaurant, or whether the food would be good.

The Bridge really is one church, though we currently operate four campuses in three locations (Spanish service is organized as a campus).

Aren’t three locations enough? Why another one?

A couple of weeks ago, Linda and I were in Talkeentna, Alaska, at the foot of Denali National Park, and the foot of that giant mountain. Most people don’t know that Denali is earth’s tallest mountain from base to peak on land. Those mountains that are taller are part of very high ranges where the land surrounding them are at a much higher elevation.
